Time Trials Recap and Our First A-Meet

Good Evening Dolphins,

Great work at Time Trials! We hope you are all enjoying some much earned rest. Starting tomorrow, we have another busy week of Swim Team.

On Saturday, our Dolphins (and awesome volunteers!) braved the rain and early wake up call for our first meet of the season, Time Trials. We are so proud of all our swimmers. Time Trials can be a hard meet, since the weather is normally yucky and swimmers are competing in more events than they would at any other meet. It can be exhausting and frustrating. If your swimmer was feeling down after Time Trials, please remind them that their coaches are proud of them and that meets will get easier as the season goes on!

We want to remind parents and swimmers that getting DQ’d in an event is not something to be ashamed of. It is the first step in swimmer growth. Every swimmer gets DQ’d at some point, regardless of age or swimming experience. It is a normal part of swimming and helps us coaches know what to focus on at practice. If you have any questions about DQ's from trials, please let us know.

This week is our last full week of evening practices. Here is a reminder of the practice schedule:

MONDAY - THURSDAY

13&Over : 4-5pm

11/12 : 5-5:45pm

9/10 : 5:45-6:30

8&Under : 6:30-7pm

FRIDAY

No practice - Scavenger Hunt Pep Rally.

Please remind swimmers to bring water bottles to practice. This is super important as the weather warms up and we start swimming longer distances.

Swimmers who missed Time Trials will have the opportunity to get timed in events at practice. We will do 2 time trials at each practice, one at the beginning and one at the end. It is especially important that if your swimmer is available for our first A-Meet that we get times for them so we can create the meet lineup.

Our first A-Meet is Saturday 6/14. The lineup for A-Meets is made by the coaches. At NWB, we do not have separate “A” and “B” teams, we are one team where any swimmer has a chance to swim in any meet. This is why it is super important that you declare your swimmer for EVERY meet you are in-town and available for. There are a variety of factors that go into our decision making, including availability and event limits (swimmers can only swim 3/4 strokes in a meet). NEVER assume your swimmer could not make an A-Meet. Anything can happen in summer swim!

Please declare your swimmer in Swimtopia for this Saturday’s meet by Wednesday, 6/11 at 5:00pm.

Lastly, once morning practices start, coaches will be offering private lessons. This is a great opportunity for swimmers to work on their technique in a one-on-one setting. More information will be available later this week.

See you at the pool,

Maddie, Kelly, Caya & Teddy
