Important Announcements from Your Coaches!
Happy Father’s Day! We hope you had a restful weekend. Things are about to get busy at the pool!
Before getting into last week’s recap and announcements, we have an important message to share from Coach Kelly:
Hi team!
Some of you may have heard my news yesterday, but for those who did not, here it is. Bear with me as it is quite bittersweet. Recently I had the opportunity to represent USA National Collegiate Rugby in a tournament in Portugal, where my team finished second overall. After returning back to the states, an elite rugby club based out of Washington DC reached out and invited me to play for them this summer. After a lot of thought and conversation with the reps and other coaches, I've decided to pursue this new adventure, which unfortunately does not leave me with the time to coach NWB. I will still be teaching private lessons every weekday and cheering for the dolphins every chance I get, so don't expect to be rid of me just yet! I want to reiterate that this was not an easy decision to make and I am so sad to be stepping down from my role and spending less time with such a special community, but the Dolphins are always in my heart and I will still be around the pool often. Sending much love and luck for the rest of the season!!
Best,
Coach Kelly
We are so proud of Kelly and can’t wait to support her during this incredible journey, the same way she has supported the Dolphins during the last 5 seasons.
Our first A-Meet is in the books and it is starting to feel like summer. We had a full week of practice, filled with lots of sun! As we move on with the season, please remind your swimmers to wear sunscreen and bring water bottles to practice.
On Friday, we had our Scavenger Hunt Pep Rally, which brought together Dolphins of all ages to search for swim team related clues. Afterwards, we learned 3 new cheers, thanks to our 15-18s and discovered that many of our Dolphins are talented artists with chalk. Please join us this Friday for our Dolphin Bake-Off where you can sample some fun treats and have more swim team fun!
On Saturday, the Dolphins hosted the Hallowell Hurricanes for our annual beach party swim meet. At this meet, we had 139 best times and saw many first time A-Meet swimmers. We also showed great spirit, cheering loud until the end of the meet.
Three team records were broken. In 13-14 Boys 50 Backstroke, Selim Ericson broke a 9 year old record with a time of 29.03. He also continued to chip away at his 13-14 Boys 50 Fly record from last season. Then, in Girls 9-10 50 Breaststroke, Dottie Roszkowski crushed a 18 year old record with a time of 19.63. Congratulations to all of our Dolphins for making this a great meet!
We will have our first B-Meet on Wednesday. The deadline to declare your swimmers for this meet is tomorrow (Monday June 16th) at 5:00pm. Please remember to select the strokes your swimmers would like to swim at this meet. As a reminder, every swimmer is limited to 3 TOTAL events. If you selected more than three, the coaches will remove your swimmer from one event. For this meet, we encourage new swimmers to try breaststroke and butterfly, if they are interested in these events! If your swimmer DQ’d at Saturday’s meet, they may swim that event again this Wednesday.
Starting Wednesday we will have a new practice schedule, with practices in the morning and the evening. As a reminder, swimmers may only attend one practice per day. Here is a reminder of this week’s schedule:
